For my social service -necessary to graduate from any public university in Mexico- I decided to do community service. I received a material grant from One World Science, an FPI initiative dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in science.
The material grant consisted of 100 foldscopes, a type of portable paper microscope. I designed a science workshop around the microscope called Explorers of the Microcosmos and offered it at schools in Mexico City that didn't have equipped biology laboratories.
Once I had run out of foldscopes and completed my social service, I continued to offer the course by purchasing foldscopes myself.
